Does head injury have to be severe to cause brain
damage?
Not necessarily. If you are in a car accident and suffer
Whiplash, your brain is actually going to go forward and
hit the front of your skull and then it is going to go
backward and hit the back of your skull. So, you can
actually have what we call coup-countercoup injury. You
can have bruising on the front of the brain and back of
brain which can have various symptoms of head injury.
So, brain damage could be caused by a mild concussion or
an open head injury, it depends on the type of injury.
