What is the difference

A psychologist focuses on cognitive, emotional,
physical, and social behavior. They typically provide
mental health services to patients in hospitals,
clinics, schools, and private practices through
psychological assessment and/or therapy. Psychologists
are not able to prescribe medication; however, they
generally work with medical doctors and psychiatrists to
meet a patient's medicinal needs.
A neuropsychologist is a psychologist with further
training in clinical neuropsychology. This means that
they focus on cognitive functioning (i.e., memory,
language, attention). They typically provide mental
health services to patients in hospitals, clinics, and
private practices through detailed neuropsychogical
assessment to detect effects of brain dysfunction.
Neuropsychologists are not able to prescribe medication;
however, they generally work with medical doctors and
psychiatrists to meet a patient's medicinal needs..
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who has also
completed training in mental health. Psychiatrists
generally prescribe medication for mental health issues
and use other treatment providers (i.e., psychologists)
for therapy. However, some psychiatrists may provide
therapy.
